Albion Burning - by John Luxton - Post crash morality tale dedicated to Stacy Herbert

Just published on Wattpad! Goodwill to all.

“They stole the gold from the vaults.”

“They stole my pension.”

“They have taken our children’s’ future,” shouted a woman wearing a yellow bobble hat.

At this point the warriors drew their swords and ran amok.

The Outland by John Luxton - Scifi steampunk dystopian story being published on Wattpad

It is the dawn of the 23rd Century. Earth’s population are scattered across the Solar System, and beyond, driven from their Home Planet by environmental toxicity, and the all-powerful New World Order. Only a handful of Stayers remain on Earth; their decision fuelled by their distrust of all authority. Surviving by using antique technologies and ingenuity - they hang on. Waiting to one day hear from those who made the exodus.

When the word finally arrives it is from an unexpected quarter, Europa, the 6th Moon of Jupiter. And it is a truly incendiary secret that is revealed.

There has been a revolution, the workers of Europa have seized control, and news of this is now spreading like wildfire to other colonies. Centuries of lies are exposed and the colonists realize that they were tricked into leaving the earth, tricked into lives of servitude, and discover that their birthright has been stolen, leaving them enslaved to the off-planet mining cartels.

And now a call has gone out – for someone to lead the rebels to freedom, before the uprising is crushed under the jackboot of the New World Order.

Slowly taking shape on Wattpad.

Journey To Sonora by John Luxton

The intention is for this to be become a collection of stories, fables and myths. All involving some kind of divine interference in the lives of us mortals - followed by a journey to one kind or another of resolution. First off is an old fable retold and, as always in these stories, the question is asked: are we driven by the fates in order to complete our destinies or are we free to choose the manner and direction of our lives? This is one of life’s great paradoxes - and the means and manner of the resolution provide the kernel of truth on which hangs the wisdom of the ages. All nicely parceled up for you, dear reader. And available on Wattpad to read for free -

Molly Q and the Abraxas Thimble by John Luxton (Eden's Nightside)

Supernatural Romance or Paranormal Adventure? Maybe it's both. I unexpectedly started writing this when visiting family in Lancashire where I was supposed to be cranking out another dystopian story for my Dark Fiction for Dark Times series.
The landscape up there lends itself to a different kind of storytelling - same tough dark universe but without the urban element to the fantasy. Here the past looms large and legend and magic still hold sway.
* * *
Molly Quantock discovers that the hills and valleys in which she has grown up hold a secret – that her own ancestors were hung as witches.
The reverberations from those dark times still persist and she finds herself recruited to help retrieve a lost treasure – the Abraxas Thimble - the return of which will overturn the centuries of karmic dissonance that have tainted all life within the shadows of the Abney Hills.
Eventually Molly finds out that the real reason for the months of intense magical training is that she must not only retrieve the Thimble but also take it to Abraxas himself, deep in the underworld; a journey that no human has ever made.

Dark Fiction for Dark Times - First the metaphysical thriller Alembic Valise, followed by Angel Day and Coco Mojo; peopled by hallmark characters such as Lorna Z, Jada Rae, Doc Angel, Baba Zum and the comedically sinister Seraphim Volt; these edgy thrillers became The Hammersmith Trilogy.
A series of three books that share some locations and have some characters in common. Non-sequential, therefore they can be read in any order.
* * *
Lorna Z plays 'Good Samaritan' to a face from the past who seems to be experiencing hard times. Later she discovers her friend is involved in the drugs trade. But not any kind of drugs - drugs designed specifically for children.
Discovering that the police, parents and teachers are powerless to act she launches an initiative to clean out this scourge. This makes her a target for the suppliers who resent her interference. They try to terrify her into stopping - so they can continue plying their lucrative deadly trade.

Alembic Valise Soundtrack

Here's the thing - While the story line of my magnum opus Alembic Valise rumbles ever onwards I have been finding time to come up with fragments of soundtrack type music and in the spirit of creative transparency I have put a couple of tracks up on my Alembic Valise website. There is more in the pipeline.

Virtual Utopia and Living Hell - by John Luxton

The zeitgeist event (in the UK) of the last week has to be the arrival of the iPad into our lives. People really seem to believe, maybe correctly, that this device will transform their interaction with the world, a personal window onto a bright, shiny, colourful future. Owning this device guarantees access and is a passport to this world. There is defiantly a totemic aspect to all Apple products, and none more so than the iPad.

The backdrop to its arrival is the startling news that at the factory/city in China where the iPads are built the workers are suiciding. Twelve succeeding, many more attempting. The bosses are reported to be recruiting thousands of therapista and counsellors to restore mental hygiene to the production labs.

Contrast this sad and desperate news to the other images that emerged from China this last week, the opening of the Shanghai Expo.

A few years ago I used to watch the sci-fi TV series Lexx. In which the occupants of a sentient spacecraft/creature were trying to outrun a dark force that was inundating the known universe. This evil cloud was, rather quaintly from today’s perspective was called the Gigashadow. Sometimes I cannot help feeling that there was a degree of prescience in this story line.
